Rolex Datejust ref. #6605 18K/SS C-1956 Item #2587 SOLD
How often do you come across a 62-year-old watch with its original Chronometer certificate?
This C-1956 Rolex Datejust ref. #6605 is 100% original and includes its original Chronometer Certificate. They tested this watch for the entire month of February in 1957. What makes the certificate so wonderful is the test results were filled in by hand. Wonderful document and oh so rare! This was back when a Chronometer Certificate really meant something.
The watch itself has a wonderful vintage look. The Silver dial and applied markers are all original and have never been refinished. An alternating black and red "Roulette" date disc at 3 o'clock is original and looks great. The faceted hands are also original. As with most watch hands from this period, they were plated and now, better than 60 years later the plating shows wear. The Oyster case measures 36mm and features a white gold fluted bezel in amazing condition with very sharp flutes. The watch really looks great on the wrist. For perspective, we took a picture of me wearing it. I am 5'9" and 160 lbs.
The watch is powered by the Rolex in-house caliber 1030 automatic movement. It features automatic winding and non quick-set date. This is the highest quality chronometer movement of the time and cone of the first with free-sprung balance wheel. The movement is running well and keeping very good time.
Completing the look is an vintage leather grey strap that matches the watch perfectly.
The price includes full restoration and repair. The work will be performed after purchase. This entails proper service of the movement, a new mainspring, and anything else that would be necessary to bring the watch into proper working order. The extent of restoration will be left up to the new owner.
Please allow 1-2 weeks after purchase for service to be completed.
