Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Automatic Item #2615 SOLD
A very cool piece of exploration history! This great looking stainless steel Nivada Antarctic is a part of the Antarctic series, originally commissioned during the "Age of Exploration" of the mid-late 1950s. Between conquering Mount Everest and exploration of the deep sea, this piece was one in a series made to honor the era.
The watch features a stainless steel case with thick, curved lugs. It's a good size at 34.5mm across (without the crown) and 42mm from lug tip to lug tip. The screw on caseback is signed "Croton Nivada Grenchen". The case shows some signs of use, but really outstanding vintage condition overall. The offwhite dial finish is all original with just a touch of aging. With big applied, faceted markers, applied luminous and original matching hands, it just looks outstanding. A blued steel sweep seconds hand really pops against the dial.
Powering the watch is a Croton Caliber 2532 movement with 17 jewels and automatic winding. It is also signed "Nivada SA Grenchen". The movement has been recently serviced and is keeping very good time. We paired the watch with a high grade, waterproof leather strap. A great piece of history and in wonderful condition!
