Omega Gold Cap Constellation ref. #168.005 Item #2662 SOLD
50 years old and in wonderful unpolished original condition! Here we have a sharp looking all original Omega Constellation C-1968 with a highly desirable gold capped case and an original finish pie-pan dial and hands.
The bezel is solid gold. The rest of the case is stainless steel with gold capped lugs. The gold top meets the stainless steel in a perfect 45 degree angle. Even the "dog's leg" style lugs retain their original 45 degree angles. Take a look at the photos to see all of the wonderful original edges that haven't been polished to a round. Every angle is clear and sharp, unlike the vast majority of Constellations from this era for sale that have been well abused and overpolished.
The case measures 34mm across without the crown, and 43mm from lug tip to lug tip. The stainless steel caseback features the trademark gold Observatory medallion. A signed gold 8-sided Constellation crown and signed Omega crystal completes the look.
The original finish silver dial is absolutely stunning. It features polished applied gold bar markers with raised black centers. The hands are a matching gold/black Dauphine style, all original. The dial is accented with applied gold Omega logos, a border around the date window, and an applied gold Constellation star top it all off - ALL are original! One small mark above the date window is the only real sign of age.
Powering the watch is a very high grade 24-jewel automatic certified chronometer caliber 564 movement marked adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. The watch comes fully serviced, including a brad new, correct signed Omega crystal, a new mainspring, and a new caseback gasket. The case was ultrasonically cleaned only. It retains all of its original finish. As you can imagine, the case does have some signs of use, but given its age and condition this is an outstanding example and we wanted to keep it original.
We paired it with a handmade suede strap in dark brown for a classic contrast.
